Off-Mass: Shamrock Shuffle

This past weekend was the 24th Annual Shamrock Shuffle. (Which is reeeeally just a warm-up event for this party which takes place next weekend! Huzzah!) This was my first time running it (actually, my first time running a 5k in Lawrence, high five, guys) and it was pretty rockin’. The run took place in North Lawrence, starting at the Ballard Center at 9am, and heading out east along the Kaw. Proceeds benefited the local children’s charities: Ballard Center, Lawrence Arts Center, and County Fair Swim Club. It was $30 to join in the fun, which included a lucky little t-shirt and an Irish breakfast  at Johnny’s Tavern!

The weather was pretty crappy on Saturday morning (light rain and some small threats of thunder) but it felt so very perfect for a run. Plus, the crowd was wild ‘n green, especially those guys leading the pack (hah!), so the event itself was a hit. Hope you consider joining next year. In the meantime, there’s a great 5k coming up in late April you can jump into: Lawrence Head for the Cure.

Runners gearing up at the Ballard Center in North Lawrence this past Saturday.

There we go! Headed to the Kaw and back, totaling 3.1 miles.

My first year running and it was a great amount of fun. The man running in the green undies was pretty funny!
