Off-Mass: Bier Station, Kansas City

Some of life’s more delightful moments include hanging out with good company and enjoying a freshly poured glass of [insert your favorite brew here] beer, no? So friends, let me tell you about a little gem that has recently opened in downtown Waldo (Kansas City) where the company is fine and the beer is free-flowing. This hot spot is called Bier Station, “the Midwest’s first craft beer tasting bar/bottle shop.” It’s a magical place where you can purchase specialty beers and either drink them here, or take them home to enjoy later. This past Saturday night we had a double date with some KC friends that introduced us to this slice of heaven.

Quite the cozy, welcoming watering hole, wouldn't you say?

A few tables on the main floor, and more located upstairs.

Being both a tavern of sorts as well as a specialty beer store, Bier Station’s ambiance is robust and lively. There are plenty of locals occupying the communal tables scattered across the space, but there are also happy customers popping in to make a purchase and return home to crack a beer. Since there is beer on tap as well as bottles available in the large beer coolers (which stretch the length of the eastern wall) we had options like I’ve never known options. There are 21 taps here, and a rotating selection of bottles. As their website explains, it’s kinda like beer nirvana.

Love the tip-of-the-cap to Munich!

Overwhelmed a bit? Um, yeah.

When it came to selecting my poison, I have to admit, I saw many of my most near and dear brews available, but ultimately went with Left Hand’s Nitro Milk Stout which was new for me. It was on tap and it was awesomely smooth and creamy. Since the main floor was hoppin’ we had to head upstairs to the second floor where there were more cafeteria-esq communal tables available. I’m so glad we made the trek upstairs because there are two huge garage doors making up the eastern wall (which of course, will open in warmer months) and creating such a cool vibe that you kinda wanna hang around all night and rub elbows with soon-to-be friends. Alas, we couldn’t stay too long (dinner plans), but on our way out we snagged a few more beers – Rogue Chocolate Stout, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout – to go (yes-please-and-thank-you-very-much-twice).

Wanna know how this place works? Check it.

YES, they also serve food.

We had a superb time enjoying Bier Station (thanks, Teresa and Adam!). It has only been open for a couple months now, so get in and give it a taste! If you’d like to read more about it, check out this feature from The Pitch (which is where I got the top feature photo – taken by Sabrina Staires – since my beer fingers accidentally erased my outside photo). Cheers!
