Hobbs‘ tagline is “the host of cool,” and it’s totally spot-on. This not-so-little boutique is a thrill to experience, considering it has plenty of toys, trinkets, games and gadgets galore. Hobbs also carries men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and home decor (so basically, everything). If you have a birthday (/house warming/anniversary/fill-in-the-blank) party coming up, Hobbs is your place to stop for the perfect gift.

Hobbs has been around for approximately 15 years, and it’s the oldest concrete building in Douglass County (it’s home to the oldest elevator in Douglass County, too). This special shop is named after the Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O’Hara film, “Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation.” While I haven’t seen this film, reviewers have described it as “a favorite,” and, “delightful,” and I’d say the store lives up to this reputation.

I have stopped at Hobbs on occasion to pick up curious cards to mail to friends, find the hubs an anniversary gift (a beautiful architectural fountain pen hit the spot), and check the women’s clothing racks for something unexpected. It has never disappointed. Moreover, if you’re not in the area to swing by, you can place an order online. Easy-peasy.

Hobbs is open Mon-Wed 10-6; Thurs-Sat 10-8; Sun noon-4.
